Chennai Afro Latin Festival 2024: A Remarkable Experience as Kizomba Artists
August 2024 brought an exciting opportunity for us to be part of the Chennai Afro Latin Festival, a prestigious event organized by the talented duo Imam and Azleena. Held in the vibrant city of Chennai, this festival was a celebration of Afro and Latin dance forms, bringing together a diverse community of artists and enthusiasts.
As Kizomba Artists, we were honored to contribute to this dynamic event by conducting an open-level workshop titled “Kizomba Connection & Direction.” This session was designed to cater to dancers of varying skill levels, providing both beginners and experienced participants with valuable insights into the essence of Kizomba.
The workshop focused on the fundamental elements of connection and directional movement, which are at the heart of this dance form. We emphasized the importance of creating a harmonious partnership, understanding body mechanics, and maintaining a seamless flow between lead and follow. The energy and enthusiasm of the participants were truly inspiring, making the experience both rewarding and memorable.
Being part of the Chennai Afro Latin Festival was not just an opportunity to share our knowledge but also to immerse ourselves in the rich and diverse dance culture the festival fostered. It allowed us to connect with other artists, exchange ideas, and further strengthen our commitment to promoting Kizomba.
This festival was a testament to the growing appreciation for Afro and Latin dance forms in India, and we are immensely grateful to Imam and Azleena for inviting us to be part of such an extraordinary event.
